Position Summary:

Responsible for the overall management and supervision of team to ensure proper administration of all services and compliance with agency and contract. This position is located at Riker's Island. The Assistant Director will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of groups on Rikers and will provide clinical supervision to team and ensure implementation of a quality program.

Central Responsibilities : Implementation of policy and procedures, ensures compliance with DOC and other state regulations as applied, ensures delivery of performance outcomes, assesses site operational processes, oversees quality of services.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides leadership and oversight for entire site to include logistics, staffing, client flow, room scheduling, and exhibit the level of professionalism and customer service under a philosophy of urgency, ownership, learn by doing, and motivation through production.
  • Implements and directs the employment-focused approach for all program components as set forth in program policy, plans out all required support materials for training on-site and off-site faculty. Works closely with Employment Works leadership specialists, job developers and administration.
  • Assists with the establishment of employment focused initial and follow up interview techniques for on-site facilitators.
  • Trains and guides service site team and staff as needed to meet and exceed monthly work participation and placement goals.
  • Is punctual and dependable in making sessions and preparing for them in advance.
  • Motivates staff, establishes, and maintains a high energy, highly accountable, team approach to getting site work completed timely and in an atmosphere that is stimulating, for continued growth and development.
  • Manages the design and implementation of staff training to improve program performance and operational efficiencies.
  • Observes all DOC policies and procedures, measuring results against standards and making necessary adjustments.
  • Completes weekly reports as specified.
  • Reviews and analyzes special reports, summarizing information and identifying trends.
  • Recruits, trains, and orients administrative support employees.
  • Maintains office staff productivity through coaching and counseling of office employees as well as monitoring and appraising job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Analyzes site data and metrics for strengths and areas for improvement in performance and efficiency. Prepares regular reporting mechanisms for the different components of the services.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work is strongly preferred or related field.
  • 7-10 years of related public health, workforce development, social services, vocational rehabilitation, or professional experience at least 4 of which must have been Management/Supervisory.
  • Experience working in correctional institutions, with formally incarcerated with public assistance recipients, homeless, and/or those affected by the challenges associated with poverty.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to thrive in environments with multiple stakeholders, frequent change, and diverse objectives.
  • Excellent problem resolution, planning and decision-making abilities regarding policy matters, personnel, and client issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and presence including presentation skills.
  • Ability to gather and synthesize information from a wide variety of people and sources.
