Responsibilities


Coordinates the college’s effort to attract and retain Master’s and Ph.D students. Provides guidance and leadership to ensure that the college’s graduate programs are well-developed and well-coordinated, with demonstrable positive results. Enhance the graduate student experiences in the academic departments, programs, and College. Manages the evaluation of requests for transfer credit, supervision and completion of graduation clearances, coordination of graduate student recruitment efforts, and maintenance of all graduate student records. Manages graduate admissions, major changes, and course demand and oversees graduate student compliance with university regulations and degree requirements. Coordinates with Graduate School throughout the admissions process to verify domestic and international credentials and handle complex admission situations according to appropriate university policy.
Updates College staff on changes in College or University policies through periodic meetings. Designs policies and procedures for the effective operation of the College of Social Science Academic Affairs Office. Develops and coordinates college-wide compliance with policies and procedures implemented regarding graduate add/drops, grade changes, withdrawals, readmissions, reinstatements, exception petitions, graduation checks, and graduation clearances. Interprets College curriculum requirements. Counsels graduate students regarding graduation requirements, academic probation, dismissal, and academic and personal matters as they affect academic performance and makes referrals to other campus support services as appropriate.
Manages academic student services activities for graduate students in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy. Interprets and authorizes exceptions to college and certain University policies. Counsels graduate students on academic affairs, providing a high level of customer service. Incumbents must be highly familiar with the College's graduate programs and the requirements for each. Provides administrative support to the Graduate Academic Program Specialist staff within the College’s departments and programs as it relates to graduate academic student affairs. Serves on committees to develop partnerships and policies throughout the University. Directly supervises the Administrative Assistant and (1) one Academic Program Specialist position in the Academic Affairs office.
Supplements and expands the efforts of the college’s graduate departments and programs to establish a diverse community of academic scholars through the development of targeted recruitment strategies. Further, to actively prepare and recruit undergraduate students from underrepresented groups for graduate studies. Organizes staff to ensure College participation in campus-wide student academic services, retention, and engagement activities. Assists in advising graduate COSSPP students as needed. Utilizes best practices in graduate student recruitment and marketing.
Serves on the College's Academic Affairs leadership team as determined by the College of Social Sciences Dean or Assistant Deans by participating in strategic planning, staffing decisions.

Qualifications


Bachelor’s and four years related work experience with at least three years of progressively responsible experience in graduate academic affairs; or a Master’s and two years of progressively responsible graduate academic affairs experience; or a high school diploma/equivalency and eight years of experience in the same areas.

(Note: or a combination of post high school education or related experience equal to eight years in the same.)

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of and the ability to strategically align tasks and people with organizational goals and objectives.

Knowledge of student programs and activities.

Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.

Experience with web-based applications and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) or comparable software.

Ability to train and supervise employees.
