The Department of Computer Science at Loyola University Maryland is seeking individuals committed to excellence in undergraduate education at a vibrant liberal arts university who can continue a productive research program. We have two tenure-track positions that begin July 2023 and will consider both Assistant and Associate Professor applications. The hired faculty members will be joining a collaborative and supportive small department of six full-time faculty, with a teaching load of 3 courses during each of the fall and spring semesters, no required summer teaching, and research support (travel funding, startup funds, equipment funds, student research support, etc.).
Our department offers an ABET accredited B.S. In Computer Science as well as a more flexible B.A. in Computer Science. We also support Loyola’s undergraduate and masters-level Data Science programs, and interdisciplinary majors across campus. We graduate 25-30 computer science majors each year. The successful candidate will primarily teach in these undergraduate programs ranging from introductory to advanced level, and will have the opportunity to teach in the Data Science Masters program as well. Candidates in all areas of specialization will be considered. Required Qualifications
The successful candidate for either position must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
The successful candidate for Assistant Professor must have the following:
- Demonstrated potential and interest in excellence in teaching;
- Demonstrated potential for significant scholarly activity; and
- An awareness of and interest in high impact practices in line with the mission of Jesuit higher education.
The successful candidate for Associate Professor must have the following:
- Significant teaching experience at the undergraduate level, including demonstrated usage of high impact practices;
- Recent scholarly activity and a commitment to continued research; and
- An interest in eventually, but not immediately, serving at least one 3-year term as department chair.
Assistant Professor applicants with teaching experience will be preferred.
Additional qualifications that are not required but are preferred for both positions include:
- Teaching experience in first- and second-year courses, or in Computer Science theory, or in data science;
- A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, including engagement with high impact practices;
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.
