Being part of the BMS applications engineering team is an exciting opportunity to help bring state of the art battery monitoring, wireless communication and control systems to market in electric vehicles and other energy storage systems worldwide. A BMS system solution consists of ADI integrated circuits, system hardware, software and algorithms, RF networking, security, functional safety and more. ASIC application engineers sit in a unique position working both on HW and SW product development as well as with the customer application. This gives great personal growth opportunities in both technical and business areas. Those who enjoy complex systems, working closely with customers, are versatile, or have broad interests may especially like application engineering regardless of their experience level.

Job Activities:
Here are some of the engaging activities applications and validation engineers tackle every day.
All positions
  • Understand complex Automotive OEM and Tier1 application ecosystems and support the integration of ADI system, hardware and software products for our worldwide customers
  • Work closely with other teams to understand customer needs and drive new product requirements.
  • Write application guides or articles to share knowledge
SW-focused positions
  • Develop proof-of-concept demos, system prototypes, and software tools (e.g., GUIs) to enable software integration and evaluation of BMS products in customers’ systems
  • Design, develop and debug automotive embedded software and ADI BMS system software solutions.
HW-focused positions
  • Create hardware reference designs, demonstrations, and application notes for customers
  • Test and validate system hardware and software performance, including creating the testing strategy and writing PC or embedded code to control the test equipment
  • Debug faulty system operation and articulate root cause analysis
  • Analyze, model, or simulate system operation
  • Develop system control algorithms
Candidate Attributes:
All positions
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • All experience levels welcome
  • Love of learning and problem-solving
  • Enthusiasm for helping customers and colleagues
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas will make you stand out, but isn’t required
    • Automotive or Industrial system design, processes, and platforms (ASPICE, AUTOSAR, etc.)
    • Battery chemistries, operating characteristics, and state algorithms (SOC, SOH, etc.)
    • Functional Safety (ISO 26262, IEC 61508 or similar)
    • General understanding of communication protocols & interfaces (CAN, LIN, I2C, UART and SPI, Wireless protocols, etc).
    • System modelling and simulations (Matlab, Simulink, Spice, Multi-physics tool, etc)
    • Low-power wireless communication systems, RF characterization, antenna analysis, EMC testing and modelling
    • Test and measurement experience for RF and mixed-signal ICs and circuits
SW-focused positions
  • Experience in real-time embedded C/C++ software development.
  • Working knowledge of python
  • Comfortable working with embedded system hardware
HW-focused positions
  • Ability to design, evaluate, validate and debug mixed-signal or RF circuits
  • Knowledge of PCB design, layout and component selection
  • Basic embedded and non-embedded programming skills for hardware or instrument control
