West Virginia University Extension Service (WVUES) is seeking applications for an ANR Program Coordinator.

About the Opportunity

This position will serve Mason County’s ANR Programming needs. This position will collaborate with other Extension Service faculty and staff in the region in delivering various aspects of the county Extension program. Travel in-county, regionally, and statewide will be required to attend professional development activities. Occasional overnight stays will be required.

What you'll do:

  • Under supervision and guidance of Extension faculty, conduct formal and informal educational programs and teach in the ANR program unit.
  • Provide programming to reach adults and youth utilizing curriculum and other ANR educational programs.
  • Provide leadership to the county-wide ANR program, both, youth and adults, to include field days, demonstration projects, fairs, and festivals
  • Develop coordinated events with ongoing educational objectives to include forage and crop management skills livestock management skills and local agri-businesses
  • Conduct applied research that would support the ANR teaching and service programming in Mason County and the Mid-Ohio Valley
  • Support Mason County 4-H as a subject matter professional for various programs and activities during the year.
  • Travel independently within the communities of Mason County to meet the needs of agriculture producers.
  • Work collaboratively with the ANR Administration, specialists, and their supervisor to adhere to the objectives of Mason County Extension program and the WVU Extension ANR objectives.
  • Participate in the WVU Extension Service ANR webinars, training and reporting activities under supervision of the Mason County 4-HYD Extension Agent and the ANR Unit Director.
  • Maintain all required documentation and financial records as requested.
  • Work collaboratively with WVU Extension faculty and staff, and other ag service providers to plan, present and review the program for sustainability and resource development.
  • Work collaboratively with WVU Extension faculty and staff in neighboring counties to provide opportunities and information to the citizens of Mason County in the WVUES areas of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
  • Stay abreast of the WVUES policies and procedures through participation on calls, training opportunities, and latest resources and literature regarding ANR programming.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education, animal science, agronomy, agriculture education or Extension education is preferred.
  • If the conferred degree is not in the specified academic fields, applicants may qualify with any degree plus 3 years of relevant work experience in the required fields. Demonstrated leadership and management skill through collaborations and partnerships with agencies and organizations is essential.
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree in progress may be considered, but the degree must be conferred by the candidate’s date of hire.
  • A minimum of 3 (three) years of expereince with the following:
    • Experience with providing support and leadership for county-based Extension programming
    • Relevant work experience in education, youth development, agriculture education or Extension education.
    • Experience working with volunteers is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, interact, and collaborate with colleagues, families, and youth.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Strong knowledge of ANR programs.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to form positive working relationships with staff, faculty, community organizations, and program users.
  • Ability to work with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills to achieve the program’s long-range strategic goals.
  • Ability to travel as needed, which may include occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. May also include conferences, professional development, county events, and summer residential 4-H camping with overnight stays required.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 30 lbs. needed to conduct training and perform the duties of the position.

  • Ability to pass WVUES Background and youth protection screening
