DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Air Quality Program Specialist (AQPS) in this position will be responsible for the development and operation of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s federally mandated statewide ambient air and meteorological monitoring networks. The AQPS will also be performing quality assurance on the Commonwealth of PA’s Ambient Monitoring System (COPAMS) criteria pollutant data. The AQPS will be responsible for analyzing ambient air monitoring and meteorological data to diagnose trends and produce reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • This position will be physically headquartered in one of the following locations: Central Office, Harrisburg; Northcentral Regional Office, Williamsport; Northeast Regional Office, Wilkes-Barre; Northwest Regional Office, Meadville; or, Southwest Regional Office, Pittsburgh. The headquarters determination will be based upon the office location listed on the posting which is in the closest proximity to the selected candidate's current headquarters or residence.
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days in a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the assigned headquarters office.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as an Air Quality Specialist; or
  • One year of experience as an Air Monitoring Program Supervisor; or
  • Three years of professional work in the control and abatement of air pollution and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or an environmental field closely related to Air Quality Management; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
Necessary Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
