What You Will Do

Materials Physics and Applications Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (MPA-CINT) is seeking an outstanding postdoc candidate for advanced in-situ (corrosion and irradiation) electron microscopy testing of various metal and ceramic materials. The candidate is expected to have TEM background to characterize microstructure evolution under corrosion and irradiation exposure. Techniques will include conventional diffraction contrast and analytical (S)TEM, in situ TEM, HR-TEM, FIB, PFIB, and EBSD at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The successful candidate will work with a team of experimentalist and modelers to explore and understand various corrosion mechanisms. Of particular importance is the role of interfaces. The position will be awarded to the candidate demonstrating exceptional talent with a successful collaborative and scientific track record.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Expertise in corrosion and irradiation
  • Expertise in conventional diffraction contrast and analytical (scanning) transmission electron microscopy (S)TEM and high resolution TEM.
  • Experience characterizing defects (dislocations, grain boundaries, phase boundaries) using (S)TEM and HR-TEM.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metals and ceramic deformation behavior.

Education/Experience: A PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related engineering discipline completed within the last 5 years or soon to be completed.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with in situ SEM or TEM mechanical testing
  • Experience with a monochromated, image-corrected FEI Titan and other SEMs, FIBs, and TEMs, such as 4DSTEM.
  • Experience in Electrochemistry and Corrosion
  • Experience with EBSD.
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which generally requires US citizenship.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2.
