Main function

Serves as facility telephone operator. Greets patients and assists with necessary admitting paperwork.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Communicates effectively and professionally with vendors, physicians, coworkers, patients and visitors

Financial practices:

  • Uses facility resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practices
  • Reports wasteful practices
  • Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements

Compliance program:

  • Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the organization’s adopted compliance program
  • Performs according to established compliance policies and procedures

Performance-improvement program:

  • Contributes to the progress and development of the organization's adopted performance-improvement program, policies, and procedures
  • Performs according to established performance-improvement policies and procedures

Safety/risk-management program:

  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities
  • Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance to the safety officer or other designated person
  • Complete annual education requirements

Duties:

  • Serves as telephone operator for facility; routes incoming calls correctly and takes accurate messages when unable to connect caller to requested party
  • Greets patients and provides necessary paperwork for completion
  • Corrects any inaccurate patient information in patient database
  • Notifies appropriate nursing staff that patient is present after patient has completed paperwork
  • Keeps track of and updates patient’s family, patient’s driver, etc.
  • Protects patient information and ensures compliance with HIPAA
  • Calls appropriate agencies for assistance in case of emergency
  • Performs other miscellaneous office/clerical duties as needed
  • Checks and responds to emails in a timely and efficient manner

Billing duties:

  • Ensures all co-pays and deductibles are paid at time of admission.
  • Inputs all co-pays and deductible payments into patient database. Provides patient with receipt.
  • Accepts patient payments over the phone.
  • Accepts all payments for anesthesia.
  • Gives all payments to Business Office Manager for processing.

Responsibility for assets:

  • Responsible for incoming cash, checks, and credit card receipts until delivered to Business Office Manager.
  • Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians
  • Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, insurance companies, and general public
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems.

Requirements:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Good typing skills

  • Strong ethical and moral character references

Preferred:

  • Medical receptionist experience
  • ASC experience
