Job Title: Administrative Nursing Assistant

The Administrative Nursing Assistant (ANA) is a position to invite selected nursing students interested in working for Bakersfield Heart Hospital an opportunity to begin working beside an RN six months prior to their graduation. The ANA’s will observe an RN, help implement select nursing skills, become familiar with the nursing process and the facility. The ANA’s will be required to work a minimum of one day a week and/or as needed until they receive their RN Licensure or IP certificate. The ANA’s at times of need may be asked to perform the role as a PCP.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a RN program with 6 months left until graduation.
  • Must maintain enrollment in a RN program while in position
  • Current BLS certification

Essential Duties:

1. Primary Functions:

  • Observe the Registered Nurse implement the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, Outcomes/Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation).
  • Ability to manipulate various types of electronic and clinical equipment, adjust and troubleshoot monitoring equipment and computer equipment.
  • Enter orders into Paragon order management.
  • Assist with the Admission process paperwork.
  • Actively participates in administering patient care and ensures a safe and comforting environment.
  • Responds to patients needs in a timely manner
  • Assists patients with ADL’s including meals, bathing, and hygiene needs
  • Performs/assists with positioning patients and transferring patients from bed to chair or wheel chair or stretcher. Transports patients as needed.
  • Reports abnormal conditions to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Applies the knowledge of growth and development to appropriate patient populations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Maintains universal precautions.

2. Technical Activities:

  • Performs oral suctioning with a Yankauer.
  • Establishes patient setup/connection tasks including inputting patient specific data into monitors and EMR
  • Demonstrates ability to perform 12 lead EKG.
  • Runs EKG strips
  • Collects specimens such as urine, stool, or sputum.
  • Obtains weight and basic patient information for new admissions.
  • Monitors and performs vital signs using a variety of equipment, and reports abnormalities/unanticipated changes to RN.
  • Ability to apply single dressings and to assist RN with more complex dressings.
  • Provides clerical support as needed.
  • Able to perform PCP duties

3. Staff/Unit Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes resources in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Maintains and develops own competencies.
  • Maintains and promotes a team spirit through active cooperation and collaboration.
  • Actively participates in the Performance Improvement and Utilization Review program.
  • Cross-trained to PCP role
  • Can access hospital computer devices (P drive; S drive etc.)
  • Assists with patient charges as are necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge of and confirms to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assures that patient equipment and supplies are available and are in working condition.
