Description

The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Northern Recreation and Leisure Services Division is seeking a highly skilled professional to provide a wide variety of technical support work. The ideal candidates will be tasked with reviewing and processing materials and documents to include but not limited to human resources, administrative and financial support to division staff and facilities.

Job Summary:
Provides administrative assistance for various programmatic activities. Guides junior staff and supports efforts of administrative specialists to develop and administer programs. Interacts with staff, citizen's groups, and others to provide information, gather data, and prepare records.
Serves as liaison to coordinate technical and administrative functions for a division or unit. Monitors, assigns, or supervises work of administrative support and clerical staff. May evaluate and initiate changes in office administrative practices and provide training and technical assistance to staff on administrative matters. Attends staff meetings or departmental committee meetings representing supervisor.

Please Note: The salary range for this position is $43,586 - $77,192.00; however, the budgeted salary range for this position is $43,586 - $60,389. Salary is commensurate with experience.


Examples of Important Duties

  • Provide administrative support to the Assistant Division Chief
  • Provide administrative support to the assigned Region(s) and/or Unit to include:
    • Prepare, process, and maintain confidential personnel actions and employee files
    • Process and review seasonal employee time and attendance
    • Review payroll information and resolve any discrepancies
    • Prepare, process and track purchasing documents to include: purchase cards, purchase orders, and contracts
    • Process check request to include instructor payments, petty cash reimbursements, and mileage reimbursements
    • Maintain and reconcile financial records to track expenditures
    • Create and proof flyers, brochures, and marketing pieces
  • Conduct occasional training for divisional staff to inform them of up-to-date processes, policies, and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
2. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience that includes at least two (2) years in administrative and clerical support work and at least one (1) year of technical support experience in the administrative management areas of the specific position to be filled.
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 4 years.

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Data entry, tracking, and compilation skills for report creation.
  • Proficient in operation of office machines (i.e. multi-line phone, xerox, fax, etc.).
  • Ability to work with a team to support work program/unit.
