DEPARTMENT: Council on Aging

PAY LEVEL: Level 8 Step 3

SALARY: $18.03

EXEMPT/ NON-EXEMPT: Non-exempt

LOCATION: Council on Aging: 711 Marshall Street, Suite 100

SUPERVISOR: Leisure & Learning Program Coordinator

SUPERVISES: No

Percentage of Time Accountabilities

45% Assists with Leisure & Learning Program and agency events, including facilitating activities, events and trips.

40% Facilitates Leisure and Learning activity

10% Assists with Leisure and Learning Program & agency events.

5% All other duties as assigned.

Scope

Under the supervision of the Leisure and Learning Program Coordinator, support the Leisure and Learning program to offer a variety of senior-centered activities focused on aging well. Facilitate Leisure and Learning activities, events and trips, and track associated data. Develop, implement and manage the agency’s social media strategy and platform(s). Create engaging posts and oversee social media content to build an audience and ensure client engagement. Must be available Wednesday and Friday afternoons, some evenings and occasional Saturdays.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to understand, follow and communicate written and oral directions.
  • Ability to be innovative in the planning, development and implementation of Leisure and Learning program offerings
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with older adults who are dependent on community services to remain in their own homes.
  • Ability to use social media for impressions and brand awareness.
  • Proficiency using social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook.
  • Ability to maintain records and the agency’s reporting system.
  • Organizes work, sets priorities, meets critical deadlines and completes tasks with minimal direction.
  • Possesses proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Human Relations

  • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing with clients and co-workers, organizations and other collateral contacts.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with clients, other agencies and or departments, supervisors, and co-workers.
  • Maintains a professional working attitude and professional dress while representing the agency.

Illustrative Tasks

  • Assists Leisure and Learning Program Coordinator with execution of monthly events and activities at the nutrition dining centers and other locations within Leavenworth County.
  • Facilitates Leisure and Learning activities, including cardio drumming.
  • Assists with cooking/planning for group functions.
  • Collaborates with others to facilitate arts/crafts.
  • Tracks attendance and other relevant data for each Leisure and Learning activity he/she facilitates.
  • Prepares Leisure and Learning rooms pre and post events.
  • Tracks and monitors event registrations for Leisure and Learning program.
  • Develops, implements and manages the agency’s social media strategy.
  • Creates daily engaging posts and oversees social media content.
  • Submits the agency’s content to the County’s online newsletter.

Environmental Demands

Work is performed in a modern, smoke free environment. Occasionally, work will be performed outside at annual events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred.
  • Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from business or vocational school, including or supplemented by training in marketing, journalism, or public relations.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to be certified in First Aid, AED and CPR.
  • Must be able to pass KBI background check.

Ability to use personal computer, filing, completion of reports, forms and other correspondence.

Adequate for normal conversation with co-workers, seniors and the general public.

Must be able to speak and understand English language clearly to provide detailed information by telephone and in person.
