Schär USA, a division of Dr. Schär AG – global leader in gluten-free food manufacturing headquartered in Burgstall, Italy – is hiring for an Accounting Manager to be located in Swedesboro, NJ. The ideal candidate possesses 3-5 years in a small/medium sized affiliate of a multinational organization, is comfortable with ERP solutions (Dynamics NAV would be a plus), is well organized and able to lead a small, hungry team.

Working closely to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will be involved and provide support in all accounting aspects of Schär USA, gaining exposure on all facets of the company’s operations. Frequent interactions with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Cost Accounting and Corporate functions make it for a very interesting role, suited for a well-rounded professional.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department
  • Meets accounting operational standards by resolving problems and identifying system improvements.
  • Maintains the chart of accounts and Navision account structure (conforming to Italy)
  • Approves ledger entries by auditing transactions
  • Prepares month end close in Navision
  • Reconciles all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Manage fixed asset control/Prepayments (asset disposal, additions, monthly depreciation)
  • Manage sales and use tax partners to ensure compliance to the various taxing authorities; timely and accurate filing of returns/payments
  • Establish and runs monthly department Cost Center reviews
  • Ensure all foreign currency transaction (between parent/sister companies, and other foreign vendors) are posted accurately, using appropriate FX exchange rates
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial statements
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
  • Assist in developing and managing the annual budget process and setting up accruals
  • Assists with the Annual Physical Inventory; prepare and book physical inventory results into Navision to accurately report inventory and gain or loss
  • Supports annual audit by providing information and answers to auditors
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
  • Maintains a system of controls over accounting transactions; prepare and maintain policy and procedure manual.
  • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
  • Protect organizations value by keeping information confidential
  • Maintains financial security by adhering to internal control
  • Effectively communicate with internal, corporate management and external partners
  • Provides financial analyses as needed and other ad-hoc reporting and analysis required
  • Managing accurately preparing and filing state and federal tax documents

In addition to the necessary skills and experience to perform the above responsibilities, there are a number of traits that a successful candidate will possess.

Technical Success Factors:

The successful candidate has developed a solid understanding of accounting and ERPs, beyond a proactive mindset and excellent time-management skills. Additionally, the candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field;
  • Strong MS Excel skills;
  • Proficiency with MS PowerPoint;
  • Experience with financial accounting software/ERPs (Dynamics NAV would be a plus);
  • Professional designations (CPA) desirable but not required;

  • Must be highly disciplined, results-oriented and self-motivated;
  • Strong organization skills. Ability to organize complex projects, manage multiple tasks, and meet established deadlines;
  • Detail oriented;
  • Ability to travel between the Lyndhurst, NJ and Swedesboro, NJ locations as needed; possible international travel for Group meetings/projects.
