The Accounting Assistant is responsible for collection, analysis, and reporting of accurate and timely financial and operational data on an ongoing basis to facilitate leadership decision-making and assist with internal and external reporting requirements. The encumbent shall exhibit a service attitude and enthusiasm for the diverse and challenging workload in Financial Services. Required Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in business or accounting or equivalent work experience in financial analysis, accounting, and/or project management
  • Ability to work independently
  • Clear, effective communication skills
  • Detail oriented with problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software (e.g., Excel and Word)
  • Knowledge of general ledger, accounting principles, and financial analysis
  • Must have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with other personnel to accomplish the goals of the Finance division
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in accounting, business, or a related field
  • Healthcare experience
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists with preparation of the annual budget
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information handled
  • Develops recommendations for process improvements
  • Manages nursing scholarship contracts turned over for repayment
  • Prepares periodic billing for SJRMC’s provision of services to other parties
  • Provides a high level of customer service to all contacts in the organization
  • Prepares the internal financial statements on a monthly basis for review by the Assistant CFO
  • Coordinates the annual compilation of the Community Benefit Report with Marketing personnel
  • Prepares the organization’s financial dashboards on a monthly or other periodic basis as required
  • Prepares various reports for month-end financial close in Workday, StrataJazz, and Microsoft Excel
  • Ensures timely repayment and maintains accurate records for each account until contract is satisfied
  • Maintains various balance sheet account detail on General Ledger and prepares monthly reports as back up
  • Assists with collection of financial and statistical data necessary to prepare annual governmental reports
  • Prepares selected journal entries and works with the Assistant CFO and Financial Services team to close each accounting period and year
• Prepares accounting entries and compiles the financial statements for Auxiliary and the San Juan Medical • Foundation on a monthly and annual basis
  • Reviews details of data submission and inquires as to material amounts and underlying benefit provided to gain an understanding of the reasonableness of the report.
  • In coordination with other Financial Services staff, gains an understanding of and can function as the backup for: Daily Cash reconciliation, Fixed Asset system, StrataJazz, General Ledger, and Payroll data load
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:
  • Majority of work is performed in a sitting position
  • Work may involve some stooping and bending for filing purposes
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently throughout the day
  • Works in a well-lit, temperature-controlled office area
  • Portion of job duties involves the application of manual skills requiring motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity (e.g., typing on computer keyboards, using a 10-key calculator, etc.)
