Job Description Accounting Assistant - General

Reports To Chief Financial Officer

General Functions

The Accounting Assistant shall perform a variety of functional accounting responsibilities in accordance with standard accounting procedures under general supervision and guidance.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in accounting or finance or business-related work experience equal to college level.
  • Recent work experience in one or more of the following areas: payroll, accounting, office or school finances.
  • Perform mathematical calculations accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain an efficient system of filing and retrieval.
  • Proficient at learning and using a variety of software programs.
  • Able to analytically reason and make decisions.
  • Able to work under pressure and multi-task with time-sensitive constraints.
  • Able to work as a member of a team and contribute to the agency vision and goals.
  • Positive leadership skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must successfully complete skills assessment test.
  • Must complete and pass required criminal history check.

Essential Duties

Essential duties shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform all necessary functions to ensure accurate accounting and internal control of all cash transactions performed by agency staff.
  • Coordinate the preparation and recording of journal entries into the electronic financial database.
  • Perform backup duties for other business office functions.
  • Assist in budget development.
  • Support the annual audit process as needed.
  • Perform all necessary functions to ensure a successful MDE Financial Information Database (FID) annual download.
  • Utilize the electronic financial database to perform all software-supported functions.
  • Attend meetings as a representative of NC RESA.
  • Assist Human Resources with office tasks.
  • Act as a resource, if needed, to employees, students and the general public visiting the NC RESA.

1 | Accounts Payable - General

  • Possess knowledge of NC RESA’s organization, mission and philosophy.
  • Perform other duties deemed appropriate by the Chief Financial Officer.

Relationships and Other Duties

The Accounting Assistant shall be directly accountable to the Chief Financial Officer and shall demonstrate commitment to the mission of the Newaygo County RESA through:

Terms of Employment

  • $43,656-$54,570 (non-exempt)
  • 12 months per year; 8 hours per day
  • position covered under administrative regulations
  • evaluated annually by the Chief Financial Officer
