Why does the job exist?

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

This position will provide business and administrative support to the Administrative Services Division (ASD) by assisting the accounting department with oversight of financial transactions, gathering of supporting documentation for proposed journal entries, and follow up with facility/divisions related to accounting functions. This position will assist the accounting department with oversight of the agency's capital asset listings for each facility/division to help aid the Chief Financial Officer in the process of accurately reporting NMCD's financials for year end in regards to capital asset expenditures. The position will assist in data entry preparation for NMCD's disposal submissions to the Office of the State Auditor, and serve as the agency point of contact for capital assets.

How does it get done?

  • Assist accounting department with the oversight of the agency's capital asset software.
  • Assist in gathering information for NMCD's disposal submissions.
  • Process all types of journal entries in SHARE
  • Provide assistance with the preparation of agency financial statements.
  • Auditing cash receipts

Ideal Candidate

Experience in the following:

  • Purchasing

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance and/or budgeting. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
