GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The purpose of this job is to perform difficult professional work in the preparation and maintenance of complex financial records; does related work as required.


This position works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.


  • Reviewing, verifying, and posting of the County’s cash receipts.
  • Assists in the administration of the County’s parking program (e.g., assignment of parking spaces, posting and reconciling parking payments, reporting issues, etc.).
  • Posting of sales and use taxes from the State.
  • Reconciliation and distribution of taxes collected from Hotel-Motel Occupancy, White Goods and Scrap Tire Taxes.
  • Reconciling and remitting fees collected by the Register of Deeds to the State monthly.
  • Preparation and submission of the Annual Sales Tax Refund to the State.
  • Monthly payment request and distribution of County cell phone bill.
  • Preparation and distribution of monthly municipality reports.
  • Review and posting of interdepartmental journal entries.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries.
  • Posting of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) billing and collection financial activity.
  • Performs monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Assists accounting personnel with complex problems.
  • Participates in the annual financial audit as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Performs related bookkeeping and accounting tasks as required and other projects or duties as assigned by the supervisor.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or closely related field; and two years of accounting experience, preferably in governmental accounting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
