The Talent Acquisition department hires qualified candidates to fill positions which contribute to the overall strategic success of Howard University. Hiring staff “for fit” makes significant contributions to Howard University’s overall mission.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide direct professional support and assistance in the pursuance of commercial advertising business for the radio station. Works with the advertising community and local businesses to sell marketing assets of the radio station and Howard University Radio Network.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
None.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The ability to maintain account list of advertisers for the Howard University Radio Network. Managing client needs, problem solving client objectives and being a marketing resource for various accounts of the WHUR-FM brands.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Submits a daily action plan of activity.
  • Achieves monthly, quarterly and yearly dollar goals.
  • Prepares and make a minimum of three (3) written presentations each week.
  • Generate creative ideas for presentations to clients.
  • The ability to maintain account list and generate a minimum of 7-9 target accounts at all times.
  • Maintain account list collections under 4% over 90+ days.
  • Attend all sales meetings, individual meetings, in-fields and training sessions.
  • Generates creative ideas for presentations for clients.
  • Ability to create customized presentations.
  • Services commercial accounts assigned or obtained.
  • Generates new local accounts and services business as required.
  • Contact prospective customer to sell radio commercial time.
  • Ability to analyze statistics as prepared by Nielsen Rating Services.
  • Ability to present digital solutions that are offered by station.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Knowledge of advertising in the broadcast industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in selling digital advertising.
  • Competence in both oral and written English.
  • Ability to promote, establish and maintain harmonious and effective work relations with students, faculty, staff, University officials and the general public.
  • Must be customer driven.
  • Ability to contact advertising community and advertising agencies to sell advertising time and generate revenue for Howard University radio station.
  • Ability to plan monthly, quarterly, and annual goals based on budget.
  • Ability to prepare sales proposals/contracts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree in business, marketing or related area and three years media sales experience or any equivalent combination of five years education and experience.
