ChristianaCare's Cardiology Consultants is looking for a Full-Time Access Coordinator to join our department in Newark.

Guided by ChristianaCare's value of Serving Together with Excellence and Love, the Access Coordinator collaborates with providers and patients to ensure a seamless delivery of services by facilitating the pre-authorization and referral process for the cardiology practice including cardiac diagnostic tests, cardiac procedures, specialty practice office visits, and other testing as ordered by the cardiology clinicians. The Access Coordinator promotes physician and patient satisfaction by minimizing their involvement with 3rd party insurance providers for pre-authorizations and referrals.

Mondays - Fridays: 8:00am -4:30pm, day shift.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obtains pre-authorizations, in collaboration with the practice physician/provider, for high end imaging studies including MRI, CT, PET etc.

  • Obtains pre-authorizations/referrals for all diagnostic studies ordered by the practice including stress test, echoes, cardiac monitors, carotid u/s, sleep studies, NM lung scan, DME etc.

  • Obtains pre-authorizations for hospital-based and ambulatory cardiac procedures, including cardiac catheterizations, pacemakers, cardiac ablations, structural heart procedures, loop recorder implants etc.

  • Communicates patient demographic and clinical information to UM (Utilization Management) Companies ( AIM, and NIA, Evicore) and/or 3rd party insurance providers, for referral and pre-authorization requirements.

  • Performs daily operational duties such as insurance verification/pre-authorization, utilizing Powerchart, Soarian, Revenue Cycle and insurance web-site systems.

  • Coordinates Peer-to-Peer needs with providers and insurance companies.

  • Maintains a solid working knowledge of insurance and billing requirements related to imaging procedures and out-patient office visits for maximum reimbursement of claims and to minimize financial risks.

  • Routinely interacts with physicians, practice staff, various Christiana Care departments, patients and patients' family members in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Deliver superior performance in customer service and phone skills with the ability to handle difficult patient satisfaction issues and provide service recovery.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school graduate with typing and computer experience

  • Two years' experience in a medical practice with insurance processing knowledge preferred.
