Academic Mentor Job at Freudigman & Billings LLC

Freudigman & Billings LLC Westport, CT 06880

Wanted: An educator (or aspiring educator - no certification needed because we will train you!) who’s detail-oriented, data-driven, and charismatic enough to convince a cohort of male high-schoolers to do their homework every week.

You will be working exclusively with teenagers. Yes, teenagers - those self-involved, irrational, capricious, and willful creatures. They can be fussy and critical, and sometimes they smell bad. But we love 'em. And so must you. A dynamic personality is absolutely required, but you must also be ready, willing, and able to set limits - adolescent boys can get carried away. We want someone who can speak to teenagers on their own terms, so the right person must be well versed in current sports, music, movies, and culture.

The ideal candidate possesses an inherent curiosity about the process of developing individualized educational plans while remaining flexible. You should be coachable and open to criticism, and acknowledge that the work we do with kids is a practice, not a job. You need be confident navigating math and science curriculum at the high school level, have superb organizational skills, the ability to think critically, and appropriate professional judgment.

You will also have the opportunity to be considered for our rotational program and train across multiple disciplines, so that you can expand your skills and develop new ways to engage with students. For us, academic skill building is not just about getting students better grades. At base, it’s about building their self-confidence and teaching them how they learn best. If you’re interested in that work, submit a resume and cover letter to hr@freudigman.com. Full-time and part-time positions available. Find out more at www.freudigman.com
