Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Burbank SAFE Storage and Help Center Coordinator serves as a resource to management to ensure the effective and full compliance of day to day operations of the Burbank SAFE Storage and Help Center program. The SAFE Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining documentation in accordance with all regulatory and internal program policies, contract requirements, including: weekly logs of inventory, distributions, referrals, and reports. The SAFE Coordinator will also assist in the day to day guidance of the mobile shower program and assist in the coordination of SAFE monthly network events with other agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Provide professional support, compassionate and safe care for all program participants.
  • All duties will be performed in a respectful manner, allowing clients and staff to maintain a healthy sense of self-worth.
  • Complete, maintain, and monitor sign-in/ sign-out logs for SAFE Storage and Mobile Shower programs.
  • Approach challenging behavior concerns in fair, firm and caring manner. Observe, document, and seek resolutions.
  • Support rights and respect of participant, staff, and other community partners.
  • Explain rules and procedures to all clients and ensure adherence to policies in a respectful manner.
  • Conduct program observations to ensure appropriate practices, techniques and behavior modifications are in place for maximum effectiveness.
  • Maintain a current file of appropriate community resources for staff to use such as: bus, taxi, van, Access Services, and/or other possible options to ensure participants’ access to supportive services.
  • Maintain storage center records and participant files in order and provide copies as needed.
  • Document and report unusual occurrences, incidents and injuries to management immediately.
  • As needed, assist in the completion of periodic reports, documentation and tracking resident’s progress and follow-ups.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the storage program facility, materials, and equipment. Maintain an appropriate inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain the upkeep of program to meet a high standard of cleanliness and organization. This includes: clean up areas, empty out trash cans after program is finished.
  • Self-identify potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and takes initiative to report to manager/supervisor.
  • Attend meetings as required representing The Salvation Army Glendale Corps and the SAFE Burbank Homeless Storage and Help Center.
  • Attend, participate and keep up with trainings as directed by immediate supervisors.
  • Ensures and follows professional code of ethics.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport and working arrangements with co-workers, including management team, other staff and community partners.
  • Help in the overall operations of the Mobile Shower program, as needed, assist and supervise workers and volunteers.
  • Seek, secure and coordinate donations for SAFE and Mobile Shower programs.
  • Ensure services are rendered from contracted vendors to provide services to program and notify management of service disruption
  • Crosstrain and/or learn Mobile Shower program to ensure coverage is provided as needed.
  • Communicate regularly and perform all other duties as assigned by Corps Officers or management and as needed.

Working Conditions

Office/field environments; travel from site to site; exposure to computer screens and inclement weather conditions; may work or inspect in confined spaces; public contact. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. This Position requires employee to be Vaccinated from COVID-19 or have a religious or medical approved exemption.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and pass a criminal background check.
  • BA in human services field preferred with minimum of two years of experience (or) four years of social services experience.
  • Ability to keep organizational and client confidentiality.
  • Computer literate and proficient; able to use computerized database system for information management.
  • Must be supportive of The Salvation Army’s Christian mission and philosophy.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Must be culturally sensitive and non-judgmental regarding issues with homelessness, mental health illness, substance abuse, etc.
  • Ability to carry out assignments independently and strong time management skills.
  • Knowledge of mainstream benefits, homeless assistance, employment, housing, medical and mental health resources in the community
  • Professionalism in relation to clients, fellow employees, and community contacts.
  • Excellent human relations/communication skills; ability to act in a professional manner regardless of circumstances.
  • Skilled in non-violent crisis intervention
  • Ability to self-motivate and organize time effectively.

Experience

Preferred
  • 4 year(s): Minimum Of Social Services Experience.
  • 2 year(s): Minimum Of Experience.

Education

Preferred
  • Bachelors or better in Human Services or related field
